About this course
A great deal of fraud is first noticed by ordinary staff going about their work. A cashier notices that the petty cash never quite balances. A records officer sees a name on the payroll that nobody in the department recognises. An accounts clerk gets an 'urgent' email from the boss asking for a transfer to a new account. What happens next depends on whether that person knows what they are looking at and what to do about it.
This course is for all staff in companies and in public service. It explains, in plain language, the frauds that actually hit Ghanaian organisations: stolen cash and stock, ghost names on the payroll, rigged procurement, padded expense claims, cooked accounts, mobile money and email scams, and identity fraud. You will learn the Fraud Triangle, which explains why honest people sometimes steal, and the red flags that show up in behaviour and in processes long before the loss is discovered.
You will also practise the controls that stop fraud on a normal working day: segregation of duties, approvals, reconciliations and job rotation. Worked examples in cedis walk you through a petty cash count, a payroll headcount check, a stock reconciliation and a bank reconciliation, so you can see how a missing GH₵ 1,000 shows itself.
Finally, the course covers what to do when you suspect fraud: why you should not investigate on your own, how to preserve evidence, who to tell, and how the Whistleblower Act, 2006 (Act 720) protects people who report in good faith. A branching scenario, a red-flag email exercise, a step-by-step cash count and a personal action plan keep it practical. Pass the final assessment at 80% to earn your certificate.
